While Atlanta may be four hours away from the nearest beach, you won’t find it hard to bite down on some great seafood all across the ATL. Thanks to one of the largest airports in the world right in our backyard, fresh seafood is flown in from everywhere between New Zealand and Greece to our plates in just a day. Once here, those freshly flown-in fish meet some of the best chefs in the country and are turned into award-winning seafood.

The Optimist

Though we are landlocked in Atlanta, you will feel as if you just walked in from the beach when you step inside The Optimist. The seafood-heavy menu features oysters, shrimp a la plancha and a lobster roll worth returning for, among others. Tip: The front bar has plenty of seating if you can’t score a table in the main dining room. 

Atlanta Fish Market

The giant copper fish sculpture beckons you inside for the widest selection of fresh seafood in the Southeast. With more than 100 fresh varieties flown in fresh and a menu printed twice daily, Atlanta Fish Market has something for everyone. Favorites on the vast menu include oysters, sushi, jumbo crab claws, lobster rolls and large entrees like stuffed flounder, trout amandine and skate wing. The comfortable neighborhood atmosphere — complete with rocking chairs on a wide veranda — is peak Southern charm.

Lure

Right in the heart of Midtown, Lure takes a relaxed elegance approach to classic coastal seafood traditions. Come by for the weekday oyster happy hour and order a dozen oysters on the half shell and a glass of on-tap prosecco before diving into your plate of fresh, seasonal, regionally inspired seafood flavors like salmon seared in a shiitake mushroom dashi broth. Whatever you’re having, it’ll taste great in the upscale dining room or on the beautiful covered patio.

Sweet Auburn Seafood

Dedicated to Southern-style fare, Sweet Auburn Seafood serves up seafood soul food. Find traditional dishes like shrimp and grits, gumbo, she crab soup, a crab and sausage boil, and deep-fried red snapper with key lime sweet chili sauce. There’s also a great shrimp burger here, that pairs nicely with a cocktail and live music to create a perfect night out.

Bon Ton

Bon Ton’s mainly seafood-based menu has been described by owners Darren Carr and Eric Simpkins as “Louisiana meets Vietnam paired with stiff cocktails.” This intimate and fun Midtown restaurant offers a boiled and fried seafood by the pound, as well as a shrimp burger, catfish banh mi and a family-style Crabstravaganza that includes boiled snow crab, smoked snow crab, king crab, crawfish, fried shrimp, sausage, hushpuppies and cajun fries.
