Atlanta has become synonymous with big sporting events, and the city’s new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in the short time it has been open, has made its mark as a top-notch venue for major sporting events and a destination for A-list performers.

Atlanta has long been home to the NFL Atlanta Falcons and the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, and, as of 2017, the city joined the fan-crazy world of Major League Soccer with the debut of Atlanta United FC. And what an inaugural season it was.

In its first year, the club set multiple MLS records including 1. season ticket sales (36,000); 2. single game attendance (71,874); 3. single season average (48,200); and 4. total home attendance (819,404).

Twice in Atlanta United’s 2017 inaugural season, Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened the upper deck to accommodate overflow of the city’s loyal fans. Anticipating similar fervor in 2018, the stadium has announced that the upper deck will be opened for four matches during the 2018 season – March 11 vs. D.C. United; June 30 vs. Orlando City; July 15 vs. Seattle Sounders; and Sept. 22 vs. Real Salt Lake.

Major entertainment events coming to Mercedes-Benz Stadium this year include:

In sports, here’s what to look forward to at Mercedes-Benz Stadium:

  • 2018 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, Auburn vs. Washington, Sept. 1
  • 2018 SEC Championship, Dec. 1
  • 2018-2019 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, date to be announced
  • Super Bowl LIII, Feb. 3, 2019
  • NCAA Men’s Final Four, April 2020

Located in Downtown Atlanta, the stadium is within walking distance to these popular Atlanta attractions:

  • Georgia Aquarium
  • World of Coca-Cola
  • College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience
  • Center for Civil and Human Rights

In addition to its success at attracting huge events and record numbers of fans, Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s food and beverage program was ranked No. 1 by both NFL and MLS fans. It is the first professional sports stadium in the world to receive LEED Platinum Certification.
