In Atlanta, every day is a celebration but the spring and summer months are especially important as we celebrate weddings, graduations, retirements, family reunions and birthdays. For those who don’t want to cook, we compiled a list of three types of catering — eats that are perfect for a gathering in your house, such as for a bridal shower or graduation party; packable food to  carry to a function such as the Atlanta Jazz Festival or Chastain Park; or food for dozens of people for family reunions. And, please remember that each of these catering companies is not limited to these categories; many can just as easily put a party on in your home as well as cater a large family reunion. In addition, many restaurants and hotels will put together a nice to-go basket to take to an event.

To Go Catering

  • Proof of the Pudding is Atlanta's largest caterers, and one of the city’s most popular for corporate events and lavish private parties. Not only that, but they were also named one of the "25 Great, Big Caterers" for 2015 by Special Events Magazine. It also is the caterer for Chastain Park. Concert goers can order a variety of meals and pick them up before the show.

  • Metro Fresh does it all. It is a popular Midtown restaurant that also handles large-scale catering. Metro Fresh will assemble personal box lunches from either the daily menu or the chef’s choice. Metro Fresh uses the freshest local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients and a shifting menu to offer the best produce coming from the farms.

In-Home Parties

  • C. Parks Catering & Events was started by Carole Parks who was the top caterer for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Her daughter, Carole, has taken over the business. C. Parks Catering & Events is a one-stop shop with delicious food plus the company will provide drapery, furniture and flowers as needed.

  • Epic Events Caterers specializes in corporate, in-home and weddings. Executive chef Adam Moddoz features innovative, seasonally inspired selections with international influences. He uses the freshest ingredients that are often organic and grown locally.

  • Glorious Events has been one of the city’s go-to caterers for more than 25 years. Using fresh ingredients, they produce savory, cutting-edge selections as well as familiar foods. For bridal functions, such as engagement parties, showers, rehearsal dinners — or even the wedding itself —  they also will help with flowers, linens and chairs.

  • If it’s good enough for Tyler Perry’s private party, which Oprah Winfrey attended, it’s good enough for us. Legendary Events is one of the top caterers in town and handles weddings, corporate events and social gatherings.

  • Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck brings his skills to the catering scene and prepares plated dish events featuring roasted lamb loin, roasted black bass, charred octopus and pecan-smoked pork belly with stone mustard waffle. For buffets, he offers such yummies as a springtime crostini bar and “delights by the bite.”

  •  Whether planning an engagement party, baby shower, graduation celebration or corporate holiday party, Bold American Events – Atlanta’s only chef-driven, full-service catering and design company owned and operated by Fifth Group Restaurants – combines restaurant quality menus with cutting-edge design to create an unforgettable experience. Curating creative and delicious menu options is only the first step for Bold American Events’ catering team led by executive chef Todd Annis. Connecting with the design team to visualize how these offerings will be presented to guests in a truly interactive and visually stunning way is ultimately what elevates the entire event.

  • Planning an event can be stressful, but Eugene Kitchen’s catering services promises to meet all of your celebratory, culinary needs. An all-inclusive brand featuring James Beard Award-winning chef Linton Hopkins’ various Atlanta restaurants, Eugene Kitchen seamlessly blends fresh, local options with contemporary flare for any occasion. From handmade condiments to seasonally picked ingredients, spoil your guests with the luxury of local. When looking to execute a more casual experience, consider options from the menus of H&F Burger, Hop’s Chicken and Holeman and Finch.

Family Reunions

  • In the South, family reunions mean fried chicken and barbecue. Among the best barbecue restaurants in town that cater are: Fox Brothers Bar-B-Q, Jim ’N Nick’s Bar-B-Q and Twin Smokers.

  • Low Country Catering is well-known for its Low Country food that is perfect for large gatherings in Piedmont Park or a church hall. They can provide a typical Southern meal with macaroni and cheese, black-eyed peas with country ham, pulled pork barbecue and summer squash casserole.

  • Put a HoneyBaked Ham on a picnic table and there are plenty of smiles all around. Not only does HoneyBaked Ham offer its signature spiral cut hams but also whole turkeys and sides such as broccoli rice casserole, sweet potato souffle and potatoes au gratin.

  • Mary Mac’s Tea Room knows how to feed Southern folks — and lots of them. The iconic restaurant, which was started in 1945, serves up its made-from-scratch Southern fare — along with a big dose of Southern hospitality. Any large gathering would love Mary Mac’s baked chicken with cornbread dressing and gravy, Southern fried chicken, Ms. Flora’s homemade meatloaf along with sweet potato souffle, fried green tomatoes, turnip greens and fried okra.

  • Taco Mac is famous for its chicken wings, which are perfect for a family occasion. In addition to large platters of wings, Taco Mac, which has several locations through Atlanta, offers party-size chips and salsa, grilled chicken nacho dips, quesadillas  and a Triple Play Tray consisting of three combinations  of boneless wings, mini corn dogs and onion rings.

  • The Varsity is an Atlanta icon so bring the drive-in restaurant to your family bash. All of its menus are cooked fresh and served from one of its mobile kitchens. They also have a hot dog party menu and special menus and prices for nonprofit, school and church gatherings. All you have to ask your guests is “Whattayahave?”

  • Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken opened up recently and brings Memphis hot fried chicken to its Peachtree Center location. It also offers catering for large parties.
