Atlanta has a host of neighborhoods, each with its own personality and bar scene. Some, like Virginia-Highland and Buckhead, are well known. Others, such as East Atlanta, are gems just being discovered. The East Atlanta vibe? Different, diverse, lots of music and definitely cool.

Here are our favorite bars in East Atlanta.

  1. I LOUNGE Atlanta has a bar and a fabulous martini lounge, but I Lounge Atlanta also is known for its hookah lounge, which offers several flavors that come under the categories of “fruit” or “exotic.” The bar, located on Glenwood Avenue, features drinks of the month such as Peach Long Island, Port More (Bombay Sapphire, St. Germaine, triple sec, cucumber simple syrup and mango puree) and strawberry lemonade. There is an outdoor patio with bar access, which is perfect for cool evenings with friends.

  2. You don’t have to love soccer to feel at home at the Elder Tree, but it doesn’t hurt. The East Atlanta Irish pub is a proud founding member of Atlanta’s new MLS soccer club, Atlanta United FC. Watch all your favorite games here with a cold pint and good friends. Of course, there is plenty of beer but, in addition to the friendly atmosphere, the food really is the star. Besides regular pub foods such as burgers and wings, and Irish staples such as fish ’n chips, bangers and mash, and corn beef and cabbage, Elder Tree offers specialties such as imported curries, house-cured meats, cherrywood smoked pork cheek and Aberdeen sandwiches.

  3. Located on Flat Shoals Avenue, Argosy is a great neighborhood bar with a variety of craft beers and a terrific menu including crispy tofu, Brasstown beef poutine, white chili, pizza and vegan country fried steak.

  4. There is something for everyone at Midway ― great food and specials such as beer brats, weekly events such as team trivia and bocce games, and even a tiki bar that is open on the weekends. The pub, located on Flat Shoals Avenue., recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Midway, which in a previous life was an auto shop, boasts the biggest patio in East Atlanta. That’s our kind of place.

  5. Famed for its black bean burger and music, The EARL is a favorite East Atlanta restaurant and lounge. The drinks are cold and there is a wide variety of beers. The menu includes chicharroňes, salmon BLTs and a catfish po’boy.

  6. 529 Eav offers a full bar and live music six days a week. Whether it’s a local band or a touring act from Australia, music is key.

  7. The Glenwood, on Glenwood Avenue, is a fantastic bar, including plenty of draft selections and craft beers, with outstanding food.

No matter where you are in our city, you can always find great Atlanta bars here.
