'Tis the season to be merry, and Atlanta is busting out with merry making. Need a little inspiration to get into the Christmas spirit? Check out these fun things to do and add a few of your favorites to your family's holiday bucket list.

  1. Go ice skating.
Ice skating is a fun way to celebrate the holiday season with kids of all ages, and Atlanta is fortunate to have several special seasonal rinks. We're excited to check out Skate the Sky, perched above Ponce City Market at Rooftop Terrace. Skate in the winter wonderland while enjoying magical view of the city. But wait, there's more. Check out where to go ice skating in Atlanta.

  2. Attend a tree lighting ceremony.
Many neighborhoods and shopping areas kick off the holiday season with festive tree lighting ceremonies. Pick one or two and join the festivities to get yourself into the holiday spirit. Most include a full day of fun with entertainment, parade, visits from Santa’s reindeer, and many culminate with Santa lighting the tree.

  3. Get a hot or festive drink.
When you’ve been out shopping or celebrating the holiday season, sometimes you just need a little break. Shake off that chill with a hot drink. Whether you prefer a cup of tea, a fancy coffee or something a little stronger, here is our list of the best places to get a hot drink in Atlanta

  4. Go shopping for Christmas gifts.
From shopping malls to crafts fairs, nothing screams “holidays” like getting a little shopping done. Atlanta is home to a host of great shopping districts from upscale Buckhead and Lenox Square, to hip in-town markets like Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market. As the holidays draw closer, there are independent boutiques and fairs from which to choose unique, indie goods and wares.

  5. Rudolph at the Center for Puppetry Arts.
This is the perfect holiday treat for the little ones in the family. Center for Puppetry Arts presents its annual production of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," based on the beloved stop motion TV movie we’ve grown to love. Read all about it

  6. The Nutcracker at The Fox.
Nothing says Christmas in Atlanta more than the "Nutcracker" performed by Atlanta Ballet at The Fox Theatre. Audiences of all ages will enjoy the glittering, magical story and the final offering before Atlanta Ballet retools it for 2018.

  7. Snap a selfie with Santa.
If you have younger kids, it just isn’t the holiday season without a visit to Santa. While Santa is busy, busy at this time of year, he still makes time to visit with kids from all over. Catch him at numerous spots throughout the metro Atlanta area. Here are some of our favorite spots to get photos with Santa in Atlanta.

  8. See Christmas Lights.
One of our favorite traditions is to get a cup of hot cocoa and drive around to see the holiday lights. Atlanta has plenty to choose from, so we may have to make a couple of trips. Callaway Gardens tops our list this year. Named one of the world’s top 10 places to see holiday lights by National Geographic Traveler, the display features multiple scenes and thousands of magical lights. Looking for others?
