Who doesn’t love a fun festival? Plan an afternoon for or with your tween or teen, void of “I’m bored,” by going to one (or more) of these awesome Atlanta festivals – where the kids can explore, make friends and have cultural experiences.

Art

  • Crafternoons at the High Museum of Art occur on every second Sunday. Projects are designed by local artists. Art lovers also enjoy the special exhibits and periodic special teen programming like Teen Night. Teen FriHIGHday is a night of art making, music and mingling on the second Friday of every month. In the fall, you can attend Art Talks Back, where teens enjoy lively in-gallery discussions focusing on current issues chosen by the museum's Teen Team during Teen FriHIGHday.

Books

  • AJC Decatur Book Festival – This annual festival is the largest independent book festival in the country, and there is truly something for book lovers of all ages. World-class authors and of festival-goers flock to downtown Decatur Square for book signings, author readings, panel discussions, live music, parades, cooking demonstrations, poetry slams, writing workshops and more. There is also an interactive children's area for families with younger kids in tow.

Food

  • Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival – While bluegrass may or may not top the list of your teen's favorite music, the Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival is one of the top-rated festivals in Atlanta, making it a great place to spend the day as a family. Delicious BBQ and terrific live music make for a great way to top off summer vacation and get kids out of the house.

  • Grilled Cheese Festival – Grilled cheese is a favorite for virtually any kid, so the Grilled Cheese Festival is a natural fit for all but the pickiest of eaters. Get tickets and enjoy samples of dozens of tasty grilled cheese concoctions plus live music, activities and contests.

  • Atlanta Ice Cream Festival – Held each July, the Atlanta Ice Cream Festival is not only full of all things ice creamy, but also includes lots of fun activities to encourage healthy living. Participate in Hula-Hoop competitions, jump rope fun, exercise activities and demos, and more.

  • Shaky Knees Music Festival – Music lovers of all kinds love the Shaky Knees Festival held annually at Central Park. The three-day event runs multiple stages and features more than 60 musical acts. It's all conveniently located near restaurants, hotels and public transportation.

  • Shaky Beats Music Festival – Following on the heels of Shaky Knees is the Shaky Beats Festival which is geared more toward hip-hop, indie and electronic dance music. It's the same venue and musical fun with a bit different vibe. Great for music lovers of all ages.

  • Music Midtown – Piedmont Park is the backdrop for this music festival featuring top name acts like Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khalid, Foster the People and more hit-producing bands. Expect tons of fun, food trucks, entertainment, local artist market and more.
