There are so many great things to do in Atlanta for Father’s Day. Here are our top suggestions for families with tykes.

There are so many great things to do in Atlanta to celebrate Father’s Day. We’ve put together our top suggestions of activities for families with tykes.

1. Picnic at Piedmont Park
Located in the heart of the city, this sprawling park offers both nature and cityscape. Your family can enjoy a walk or bike ride along the path, play in the fields or on the playground, go swimming in the public pool or simply enjoy swinging in the shade around the lake. Take family photos with the skyline behind you. Pack a picnic or enjoy lunch next to the park at Park Tavern or Willy's Mexicana Grill.

2. Drive-In Movie
Speedway Children’s Charities is hosting Smoke Screen drive-in movie in the infield of Atlanta Motor Speedway on June 20 with a special showing of "Grease." The entire family can experience this American pastime, complete with traditional theater concessions. Prior registration is required and tickets are limited.

3. Visit Zoo Atlanta
Four new alligators join more than 70 other species in Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience at Zoo Atlanta. The exhibit features more than 65 animal habitats in a river of 60,000 gallons of water, designed to replicate Georgia’s own Flint River system. Dads enjoy free admission with the purchase of any full-price child’s or adult’s general admission ticket.

4. Go Fishing
Located just north of Atlanta’s Interstate 285 perimeter highway is Cochran Shoals, a Chattahoochee River National recreation area and one of the best places to take kids fishing in Georgia, according to GeorgiaWildlife.org. The park also offers 4 miles of wide gravel trails, perfect for an easy hike or bike ride. A fishing license is required.

5. Superhero Day at Fernbank
It’s Superhero Day at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, where you can join in on a day of celebrating hero dads. Come dressed as your favorite superhero and enjoy a day of games, activities, costumed characters and more. In addition to Superhero Day, Fernbank is having a Jurassic June celebration including special activities, paleontology discussions and dinosaur exhibitions. Throughout Jurassic June, Fernbank is offering a 20-percent discount on admission to those who either wear their favorite dinosaur clothing or present a "Jurassic World" ticket stub at the box office. Up to six museum tickets may be purchased with each ticket stub or dinosaur-fashioned ensemble from June 11 through June 30.

6. Experience Stone Mountain
If you’re looking for a more active adventure, Stone Mountain Park offers everything from train rides and trail hikes to nature exploration and park play. Your family can take Summit Skyride, a high-speed Swiss cable car, 825 feet up the mountain and experience amazing views including the Atlanta skyline and the Appalachian Mountains. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, you can hike up, kids in tow. We’ve done it with our 2 1/2 year old. Enjoy a picnic and let the kids wade in the stream near Grist Mill, one of the most picturesque spots in the park. Make a weekend of it and stay at the Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort, located right in the midst of this beautiful park.

Purchase an Atlanta City PASS for 43 percent (or more) off the admission price to five of Atlanta's must-see attractions, including several of the ones listed above.
