When you try to experience Buford Highway it can be challenging to fit in all the different cultures. Nevertheless, we at Discover Atlanta manage to fit in the most we can in just four short hours, and we want to take you along on the adventure to show you what fun there is to be had when you open your heart and stomach to savor the cultures and people of Buford Highway. We follow the itinerary here with the help of Egan TLC, which provides us with 5-star shuttle service throughout our adventure.

  • Woo Nam Jeong Stone Bowl House – When we step in to this Korean stone bowl house we receive the warmest welcome and begin to eagerly anticipate our guided tour of Korean cuisine. The stone bowls are filled with pillowy rice scattered about with vegetables, eggs and meat that comes out sizzling hot with multiple accompaniments to make each bite a fresh experience. Korean culture is centered around family, and they certainly make us feel like family here.

  • 8 Fahrenheit Ice Cream – We’d be forgiven if we left this unassuming shop off our itinerary, but we are so glad we stopped in. The 8 Fahrenheit folks start with raw cream on a super cold table and make fresh ice cream from scratch, all customized with our choice of finely chopped toppings layered into the sweet treat and then rolled into rose-like pieces and so beautifully presented that it definitely makes for an Instagram-able moment. The walls and windows are covered with multicolored post-it notes left by customers, floor to ceiling.

  • Rincon Latino – By this point in our trip we are starting to get a little full, but the amazing fresh chips and salsa and excellent cheese and bean pupusa still, amazingly, leave us wanting more. To add to the already authentic Salvadoran fare there are telenovelas playing on the TVs, which make us feel like we are in our very own abuelita's home.

  • Penang – Malaysia is on our must-visit list after experiencing the friendliness and simply sumptuous food at this restaurant. We are served an amazing bread that is a lighter version of naan, with a nice chili-infused dipping sauce that adds to the already amazing fresh flavor of the bread. Then comes our entrée, a chicken curry dish made from the most tender chicken with a complex blend of spices and served over coconut rice. We have to stop ourselves from eating it all as we know we have one more stop.

  • Co’m Vietnamese Grill – At our last stop we definitely end on a high note. After all these visits we are ready for something light and fresh. The Vietnamese chicken noodle bowl with its light noodles and fresh veggies and chicken leaves us amazed at how simple but complex this dish is. This is enhanced by the staff members who go above and beyond to accommodate, even bringing us a savory treat at the end of our meal.

While we don't get to all the cultures on Buford Highway we experience the warmth, fun and unique identities of each that we visited and can’t wait to experience more. Indian, Chinese and karaoke anyone?
