Hammonds House Galleries

The Hammonds House Galleries and Resource Center of African American Art is a welcome addition to Atlanta's arts scene. Founded in 1988, Hammonds House Galleries is the only one of Atlanta's fine arts museums that focuses on artists of African descent. Its 250-piece collection features the work of African-American artists from the late 19th century through the present day. Among contemporary artists represented at Hammonds House Galleries are Radcliffe Bailey, Romare Bearden, Tina Dunkley, Jenelise Holloway, Lev Mills and John Riddles. In addition to its art exhibits, Hammonds House Galleries offers lectures, workshops, discussions, concerts and other special events, such as a film festival or silent art auction. The Resource Center at the Hammonds House Galleries is home to slides, videos, books and other items pertaining to various artists.

Hammonds House Galleries and Resource Center is housed in a 19th-century Victorian home located in Atlanta's historic West End. The facility is available to host meetings, weddings, receptions and other private functions. The museum's gift shop sells books, jewelry, accessories, artwork, exhibition catalogues and other items. Approximately 16,000 people visit Hammonds House Galleries each year.
