Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is recognized as one of the finest orchestras in the United States. Since its founding more than 60 years ago, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus has produced 100 recordings and garnered over two dozen Grammy Awards. The 95-member Atlanta Symphony Orchestra presents more than 200 concerts annually, including classical concerts, pops concerts and family concerts. ASO pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through its yearly King Celebration.
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concerts may include performances by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Music director for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is Robert Spano. Principal Guest Conductor for ASO is Donald Runnicles.
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Venues
Chief venue for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is the Atlanta Symphony Hall, located at Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown Atlanta. Each summer, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra schedules outdoor concerts at Northwest Atlanta's Chastain Park Amphitheatre. ASO plans to unveil a new 12,000-seat amphitheatre north of Atlanta in the summer of 2008. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is also raising funds for a performance hall in Midtown Atlanta: Symphony Center.
