Atlanta Hawks basketball has been Atlanta's favorite pro basketball team since 1968. That was the year the NBA's Hawks moved from St. Louis to Georgia. Although the Atlanta Hawks' fans are still waiting for the team to win the NBA championship, the Hawks sports franchise actually captured the NBA's top title in 1958. In the years since then, Atlanta Hawks basketball has enjoyed their share of athletic talent. "Pistol" Pete Maravich — undoubtedly one of the greatest basketball players of all time — began his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks. Another famous name that will forever be linked to Atlanta Hawks basketball is Ted Turner, who owned the sports team for 24 years.

Win or lose, fans always find Atlanta Hawks basketball home games remarkably entertaining. The off-court action features performances by three dance teams (including a men's dance team at selected games), the ATK Sk8 Crew roller skaters, the 13-member Spirit Squad, and Crowd Control, the NBA team's house band. Also in evidence at Atlanta Hawks home games are costumed mascots Harry the Hawk and SkyHawk.
