Since relocating from St. Louis in 1968, the NBA's Hawks have called Atlanta home for over 40 years. From "Pistol" Pete Maravich to Dominique Wilkins, "The Human Highlight Film," the Atlanta Hawks are a franchise rich with history and tradition. Having participated in the playoffs in 27 of their 43 completed seasons in Atlanta, the team has posted nine 50-win seasons and four division championships!
The aforementioned Wilkins is one of the NBA's all-time leading scorers and heads the list of Hall of Famers who have helped shape Atlanta Hawks basketball. He is joined there by Maravich, Walt Bellamy and Moses Malone, as well as head coaches Lenny Wilkens and Hubie Brown.
The Atlanta Hawks basketball team makes its home at Philips Arena, the state-of-the-art downtown facility that opened in 1999. Additional in-arena attractions include the Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders, Harry the Hawk, and SkyHawk, who flips, spins, and alley-oops his way to a bevy of rim-rattling dunks that electrify thousands of Atlanta basketball fans at each and every home game.
