Have you ever wondered what was lurking around those little-seen parts of Atlanta? If the answer is yes, then head straight to our Music Voyager episode and check out a behind-the-scenes look at Atlanta’s fun and funky dining and nightlife scenes. These are the must-sees and must-do places, shared by the locals who enjoy them, shine a light on a creative and diverse Atlanta. Want to check these places out for yourself? No problem, just use this list as your guide.

Jackson Street Bridge

Jackson Street Bridge is the most picture-perfect place to capture a great skyline image. Make your way there right around sunset and you’re likely to be joined by amateur and professional photographers alike. You might also recognize the view as an iconic image from “The Walking Dead.”

Busy Bee Café

You never know who you might see at the Busy Bee Café. Show up for fried chicken and leave having gotten an Atlanta history lesson – maybe even from a city councilman himself! This soul food icon is known not only for its Southern cooking, but also for its clientele who frequently include Atlanta’s movers and shakers.

Freedom Farmers Market

From March through late December, Freedom Farmers Market operates every Saturday from 9am until 1pm (January through February 9am-1pm). You’ll find everything you need at this Atlanta farmers market for a home-cooked, organic, healthy meal to live music while you do your shopping.

Virginia-Highland

Music Voyager takes a look at Atlanta’s brunch scene as they sit down with chef Ron Eyester. Although his restaurant Rosebud is closed (their brunch was killer), we definitely recommend visiting other sidewalk cafes, antique shops and lively night spots in Virginia-Highland.  

Historic Oakland Cemetery

Just steps away (literally less than a mile) from Downtown Atlanta, Historic Oakland Cemetery is home to Atlanta leaders passed and iconic figures like Gone with the Wind author, Margaret Mitchell, golfer Bobby Jones and Atlanta’s first African-American mayor Maynard Jackson. The cemetery is also the final resting place of Civil War soldiers and civil rights pioneers. Needless to say, it’s full of Atlanta history.

Daddy D’z BBQ

It’s barbeque, it’s in the South and it’s good. Is there anything else you need to know? In Music Voyager, the Bush Brothers of country music’s iconic group Sugarland, give you a look at Daddy D’z famous ribs that will make you drool on your television set.

Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party

This tea and coffee house in Candler Park is an eclectic stop that seems to have frozen in time. That is, if you can have free wi-fi and still be frozen in time. Stop in for a snack of ice cream and other desserts or come for sandwiches, tea and coffee.

Little 5 Points

Let’s be honest, you may not be hip enough for Little 5 Points. But we dare you to try. This bohemian mecca features vintage clothing shops, hole-in-the-wall (but fantastic) dining and beautiful murals. The people watching is pretty good, too. Stop in for live music and drinks at one of many bars and restaurants.

Factory Girls Showroom

Where does a talented local songstress go to get styled? To an equally creative “showroom” of fashion. They call themselves fashion incubators and we definitely know why. Check out Ruby Velle’s visit during Music Voyager and you will see, too.

Porter Beer Bar

This is a must-see stop in the Little 5 Points neighborhood. Amazing food, creative cocktails and a beer selection that would make Oktoberfest jealous, the Porter Beer Bar is a favorite of this neighborhood. Four words: salt and vinegar popcorn.

Piedmont Park

You can go to Piedmont Park and play hooky (not that we condone it!) or you can go for the many events held within its boundaries. Music Midtown. Atlanta Jazz Fest. Dogwood Festival. Atlanta Ice Cream Festival. All of these favorite Atlanta events call Piedmont Park home.

Sound Table

Interested in a bit on an underground scene? If you were to combine EDM with a full-service restaurant, you’d get the Sound Table. Almost every night of the week there is a DJ or artist creating music to keep you moving.

Old Fourth Ward & Historic Fourth Ward Skate Park

There’s so much going on in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, we don’t know where to start. So we guess we’ll start with the Historic Fourth Ward skate park. This Tony Hawk-designed skate park caters to everyone on four (or two) wheels, from a novice to the expert. After tiring yourself out, head on over to Edgewood Avenue for bar hopping and live music. You won’t be disappointed.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site & Birth Home

One of the most thought-provoking and moving attractions in Atlanta, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site takes visitors on a journey back to the American civil rights movement. Visit The King Center, the birth home of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ebenezer Baptist Church, where organizing meetings were held and strategy decided.

LottaFrutta

In Music Voyager, our host experiments as a budding fruitologist at LottaFrutta, and when you see the creations at this tiny little spot, we think you will too. Stop in for a smoothie or delicious fruit concoctions and leave with a smile on your face.

Atlanta BeltLine

The Atlanta BeltLine is a can’t-miss for any outdoor enthusiast. Modeled after the New York High Line, the Atlanta BeltLine consists of trails, parks and other green space perfect for families with strollers, four-legged furry friends and the serious runner. There is even something for art enthusiasts, as the BeltLine features engaging art installations built right off the path. Not to mention the many restaurants and bars on the Beltline that allow for a quick stop to rest and regroup.
