Theatre in the Square, Cobb County's top professional theater, has invested substantially into its educational programming. The company performs programs specifically for elementary school audiences every fall, with recent productions including "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs!" and "Pecos Bill and the Ghost Stampede." The Theatre also has a performance, held during Black History Month, that is designed for middle school students. The Theatre has produced works on heroes known and unknown, from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Mae Jemison, the first black woman to serve as an astronaut on board the space shuttle, and Rachel Clark, the woman who raised President Jimmy Carter. Like its elementary and middle school productions, Theatre in the Square's Main Stage plays are made available to high school and university students through special ticket prices, performance times and study guides for teachers. And beyond the performances, Theatre in the Square offers a full slate of classes for grades 2 and up, including a summer teen ensemble. Together these programs form a comprehensive and professional education program for children and adults.
