Carol’s Picks
Carol is the ATL Insider’s culture vulture. If there is a new exhibit in town or a new show on the stage, Carol is the first to know about it.

  • Midtown Restaurant Week, through Sept. 13
Heck, yes, I’ll be dining at one of Midtown Restaurant Week’s participating eateries. Let’s see. You get great food at one of Atlanta’s best restaurants for a special (affordable) price. I can’t think of one reason not to do this. Menu, please.

  • Sky High Hot Air Balloon Festival, through Sunday
Having once hopped a ride on a hot air balloon at sunrise on the Serengeti, I find this intriguing. At the Callaway event, watch the balloons or take a tethered ride. On Saturday, enjoy activities ranging from a classic car show to disc dog demonstrations. On top of all that, it’s so pretty at Callaway.
Joleen's Picks
Joleen is a work-at-home mom to a toddler son. She and her family live in the ‘burbs but enjoy regularly traveling into the city for family fun and adventure.

  • Kids Ultimate Fitness Challenge, Saturday
Take the kids over to Historic Fourth Ward Park on Saturday for the nation’s largest mobile fitness event. Kids will have an opportunity to participate in an obstacle course that includes sprinting, jump roping, wall crawls, hurdles, jumping jacks, sit ups and tunnel crawls, before finishing off the course with a 20-foot confidence climb and 60-meter dash to the finish. The cool news is that this is a completely free event.

  • Marietta Art in the Park, all weekend
Marietta's Art in the Park features the fine art and crafts of nearly 175 artists. Guests will have an opportunity to meet and talk with the artists and even see some of the works in progress. This family-friendly weekend also includes the Chalk Spot street art display and a kids area with the Children’s Art Alley. Don’t forget to bring cash for the food vendors.

  • Outdoor Journal Tour, Sunday through Sept. 27
I love hiking and mixed media art so when I saw an event that combined the two, I knew I had to share it. The Outdoor Journal Tour is a custom journaling and meditation experience designed for women who want to dive deeper into their personal development. This tour takes place over the course of each Sunday in September. Participants will explore four of Georgia’s most scenic landscapes and hiking trails while being guided through an empowering (and customized) personal discovery process that uses journaling and meditation as healing tools. Preregistration is required.
Tommy's Picks
Tommy is a young professional keeping an eye out for the city's liveliest happenings.

  • "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," all weekend
An all-Atlanta cast brings this classic of individuality in the face of authority to the Alliance Theatre.

  • Dragon Con, all weekend
Grab your cape and spandex and flex your live-long-and-prosper fingers! The parade kicks off on Saturday morning, but don't miss out on the panels, costume contests and other events throughout the weekend. Immerse yourself in Atlanta's thriving sci-fi, fantasy and gaming (read: proud nerd) culture.
