This is the last weekend of summer and there are a lot of fun things to do for the entire family, here in Atlanta! Here are some of our favorite picks for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Carol’s Picks

Carol is the ATL Insider’s culture vulture. If there is a new exhibit in town or a new show on the stage, Carol is the first to know about it.

  • The Best of Beethoven, Friday
They bring the nicest programs to the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. This time it’s a free chamber music concert in the Reception Hall. Thanks go to the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta.

  • History, Mystery and Mayhem at Oakland Cemetery, Saturday
Oh, my, what to those creative souls at Historic Oakland Cemetery have up their ghostly sleeves now? How do stories without explanation and eerie events at the cemetery sound? Wear a scarf to help keep the hairs on the back of your neck from standing at attention.

  • NPR’s From the Top, Saturday
Given that NPR is on in my house daily, this event caught my attention. Young artists from Atlanta area and the Southeast will perform during this evening that will be recorded for national broadcast.
Joleen's Picks
Joleen is a work-at-home mom to a toddler son. She and her family live in the ‘burbs but enjoy regularly traveling into the city for family fun and adventure.

Tommy's Picks
Tommy is a young professional keeping an eye out for the city's liveliest happenings.

  • Music Midtown, Friday and Saturday
Atlanta's annual end-of-summer music festival is on, and the lineup speaks for itself! See acts like Drake, Run The Jewels, Van Halen, Jenny Lewis, Lenny Kravitz, Icona Pop, Elton John, Sam Smith, Vance Joy, Panic! at the Disco, and many more. And we just so happen to have this helpful list of 10 Insider Tips for Music Midtown attendees.

  • Y'allywood Film Festival, all weekend
As Atlanta moves steadily up the movie production food chain, our selection of "Small Batch, Single-barrel Southern Cinema" becomes wider and more accessible. Filmmakers, scholars, critics, students and film lovers come together for this huge event in southern cinema.

  • Seth MacFarlane with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Friday
Yes, you read that right, and yes, THAT Seth MacFarlane joins the ASO on stage this weekend for an evening of... gosh, we don't really know what expect either. Whether you're Family Guy fan or simply love great musical performances, you cannot miss this show.
