Atlanta is the hottest place to visit this summer, so you can have fun and beat the heat with these cool events and attractions around the metro area. All you need is sunscreen, a towel, a bathing suit and this list of ways to have fun under the sun.

When: Every day from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; weekends only starting in August

The ultimate summer thrill and water-filled experience starts at Atlanta’s Six Flags White Water. Cool off as you fly down massive water slides or float on the park’s lazy river. You must also experience the park’s newest addition and tallest water slide ever – Dive Bomber. Stand on a trap door before it opens, sending you feet first down at a 90-degree angle into a 10-story water slide. Stay at the park a little longer on Thursdays in June and July while you watch movies from the wave pool.

2. Jump in a Lake!

Go jump in a lake at Lake Lanier where Atlanta locals enjoy fishing, motorized water sports or just relaxing on the beach. Lake Lanier also provides an array of dining choices including the tiki-style Pelican Pete’s at Port Royale Marina. If you’re looking for cooler air, soar across the lake on a zip line, walk through the treetops on a canopy tour or ride the trails on horseback. The opportunities are endless at the lake.

3. Atlanta Ice Cream Festival

With “shade” included in the name itself, you can’t ignore the allure of this family fun event. Relax beneath one of the park’s many trees as you sit and listen to live music from local musicians and look forward to cool days ahead.
